Leo Melanson is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, a long-time amateur historian and a descendent of Canadian families. He has been a teacher, a public-school administrator and a college instructor, teaching school administration to graduate students. His master’s thesis in History, A History of Taunton, Massachusetts in the First World War is a reference book at the Old Colony Historical Society in Taunton. His self-published, Canadian Maritime Disasters 1912-1917 was well received by several history buffa.
He has been a speaker at the prestigious Old Colony Historical Society on two occasions, once on his master’s thesis and once on “The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt”. This is his third and most intense book focusing on the people of Halifax and those who came “from away” to assist. His educational experiences led to a mildly critical analysis of the failures to act by those in leadership roles leading up to the Halifax Explosion of 1917.
